CIBBRINA

The cause:

Uniting a Europe-wide coalition of stakeholders to minimise bycatch of Endangered, Threatened, and Protected species.

The Effect

CIBBRiNA is formed of a multiplicity of stakeholders from across Europe, all united by the aim to reduce – and where possible eliminate – commercial fisheries bycatch of seabirds, marine mammals, turtles, and sharks, skates, and rays. Running until 2029 and covering eight different fishery case studies, CIBBRiNA will deliver a comprehensive toolkit for bycatch monitoring and mitigation designed for ready uptake.

MW spearheaded development of the stakeholder engagement and communication strategy, the framework essential to CIBBRiNA’s approach of putting fishers at the centre of work to develop, test, and scale up bycatch measures. Despite it being early days yet for the project, we’ve also delivered a website, a library of communications templates and guidance (which continues to grow!), and multi-day in-person meetings designed to fuel the project’s progress.
