2019: A big year for MWC

December 20, 2019

With an ever-growing team and ever more projects to sink our teeth into, 2019 has been our biggest year yet. Find out more about MWC’s top moments of the year in our latest blog, and see you in 2020!

FISH CHAT IN PARLIAMENT

We amplified the All Party Parliamentary Group on Fisheries, using our comms AND policy expertise to bring MPs and the fishing industry together in an inclusive, open-forum.

SAFETY OBSESSED

We’re determined to make fishing safer for our beloved fishing industry – fishing is the most dangerous peacetime profession in the UK. We worked on a social media safety campaign for Seafood Cornwall Training, recorded a safety episode for our fishing podcast Fathom, AND have a national advertising campaign about fishing safety in the pipeline – watch this space!

SAVING SEABIRDS WITH THE ‘SOCUMENTARY’

We share captivating stories about the albatross of Bird Island for #AlbatrossStories on Instagram, Twitter & Facebook. We even coined the word #socumentary in 2019 (psst – it’s a social media documentary)!

Our work on seabirds is set to continue into 2020, so keep your eyes peeled for more MWC work with our feathered friends.

EVER GROWING TEAM

With so many exciting opportunities in 2019, the team is now o-fish-ally a full school of EIGHT! Plus, we’ve grown our network of long-term collaborators and contractors helping us take our #FishComms to new depths.

WANT TO JOIN TEAM #KEENMARINE?

With 2020 lapping at our shores bringing MORE projects, and we’re looking for new team members! We’re offering returnships, internships & searching for an ocean obsessed Events Coordinator to join our ranks.

SUSTAINABLE, CORNISH SEAFOOD

Supported by the CFPO and delivered by MWC, Seafood Cornwall is an initiative to support and celebrate Cornish fishers and the seafood they catch.

A new Youth Board and the #Seafoodin60 recipe series are just some of the special projects launched by Seafood Cornwall so far…

SUPPORTING INNOVATION IN THE SEAFOOD SECTOR

Continuing our long-term comms relationship with Fisheries Innovation Scotland, MWC will coordinate the 2020 FIS conference – we hope to see you there!

Since it launched in July 2019, MWC provided comms for the UK Seafood Innovation Fund – a UK-wide government initiative funding projects to disrupt the UK seafood sector.

ART MEETS SCIENCE

We LOVE celebrating science visually. In 2019, we worked with brilliant film-maker Nina Constable on a series of short films celebrating the flow of water through Devon. Eyes peeled for their launch in early 2020…

Our favourite illustrator Sarah Dowling draws dreamy depictions of fishing & seafood for many of our projects, including for an exciting East Coast project launching in the new year.

BACK TO SCHOOL

But this time – we’re the teachers! Read about the marine science comms training we can offer your organisation in 2020.

NEW FISHING PODCAST

We’ve launched our BRAND NEW fishing podcast – Fathom: Getting Below the Surface of the UK Fishing Industry.

KEEPING SOCIAL

There is lots to celebrate when you work with a team of brilliant and passionate #KeenMarines We’ve drunk coffee & champagne, feasted on sustainable seafood & homemade pizza & because it’s 2019 – we fully documented it on Instagram! Follow us for more ocean obsessed content.
